These golden puff pastry meat bites are a delicious and savory treat that is perfect for parties, gatherings, or even as a tasty snack. Filled with a flavorful meat mixture and encased in flaky, buttery puff pastry, these bite-sized delights will impress your guests. They are easy to prepare and bake up beautifully golden and crisp in the oven.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large skillet, sauté the finely chopped onion in a little oil over medium heat until translucent.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
    • Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
    • Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for a few more minutes until the spices are well blended into the meat.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Let the filling cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets to smooth them out. Cut each sheet into 9 equal squares.
  3. Assemble the Pastry Bites:
    • Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each pastry square.
    • Fold the corners of each square up towards the center, pinching the seams together to seal the filling inside. You should have a little pouch.
    • Place the pastry bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Brush with Egg Wash:
    • Brush the top of each pastry bite with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden color when baked.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this savory puff pastry bites warm!

Tip: These can be made ahead and frozen before baking. When ready to serve, bake them straight from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
