Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add Seasonings and Sauce: Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Pour in the beef broth and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. Prepare the Potatoes: While the beef mixture simmers, peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  5. Assemble the Bake: Pour the beef mixture over the potatoes, spreading it evenly. Layer the remaining potato slices on top. Optionally, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top layer of potatoes.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves. Enjoy savory ground beef and potato bake with a side salad or steamed vegetables.
