Ingredients:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
- 6-8 slices of ham (you can use smoked, honey-baked, or any type of ham you prefer)
- 8-10 slices of cheese (such as Swiss, cheddar, or mozzarella)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: Mustard, mayonnaise, or any other preferred condiments
- Optional: Black pepper and herbs for seasoning
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Lay out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Cut each sheet into rectangles or squares, depending on your desired sandwich size.
- Layer the Fillings: Place half of the puff pastry squares onto the prepared baking sheet. Add a slice of cheese on top of each square, followed by a slice or two of ham. If using condiments like mustard or mayonnaise, spread them on top of the ham. Add another slice of cheese on top.
- Cover and Seal: Place another puff pastry square on top of the cheese and ham layers. Use a fork to press and seal the edges of the puff pastry.
- Egg Wash: Brush the top of each puff pastry sandwich with the beaten egg. This will give it a golden, shiny finish when baked.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffy.
- Serve: Let the sandwiches cool slightly before serving. They are delicious hot and fresh out of the oven, but they can also be enjoyed at room temperature.
Tips:
- You can add other fillings such as sliced tomatoes, spinach, or sautéed mushrooms for a variation.
- Try using honey-baked ham with a drizzle of honey mustard sauce for a sweeter touch.
These ham and cheese puff pastry sandwiches are simple to make and sure to be a hit with everyone!
