This Soft and Fluffy Milk Bread Loaf is a delightfully tender and airy bread, perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, or simply enjoying on its own. Known for its pillowy texture and subtle sweetness, this bread is a favorite in many households. With a golden-brown crust and a soft, pull-apart interior, this milk bread loaf is both visually appealing and delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
    • Add the softened butter, egg, and warm water to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
    • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
  2. Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment to knead the dough for 6-8 minutes.
  3. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Dough:
    • Punch down the dough to release the air, then transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
    • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball, then flatten and shape into a long oval.
    • Fold each oval into thirds, like a letter, and place them side by side in a greased loaf pan.
  5. Second Rise:
    • Cover the loaf pan with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  6. Bake the Bread:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Brush the top of the loaf with the beaten egg to create a shiny, golden crust.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Enjoy the soft and fluffy milk bread fresh, or store it in an airtight container for later use.
