Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of milk
  • 6 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • Ground cinnamon for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease two medium-sized baking dishes.
  2. Mix cornstarch and sugar in a large saucepan. Gradually stir in milk, making sure to dissolve the cornstarch and sugar completely.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to thicken.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with vanilla extract. Temper the eggs by slowly pouring a cup of the hot milk mixture into the eggs, stirring constantly.
  5. Combine the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the rest of the milk mixture. Stir continuously over low heat until the mixture thickens further but does not boil.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in melted butter until well incorporated.
  7. Pour the custard into the prepared baking dishes, dividing it evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and set.
  9. Cool slightly and sprinkle with ground cinnamon if desired before serving.

Enjoy your Golden Custard Squares warm or chilled, as they make for a delicious dessert at any time of the year.
