Filled donuts are a sweet and fluffy treat consisting of fried dough in the shape of a ring, filled with different creams or jams. This popular dessert combines the softness of the dough with the intense flavour of its filling, creating a delicious experience for those with a sweet tooth.

Doughnuts can be filled with a variety of ingredients, including pastry cream, chocolate, strawberries, dulce de leche, or even hazelnut spread. Making them involves mixing and kneading the dough ingredients, letting it rest, and then forming and frying the dough rings until they are golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Once ready, they are carefully filled using a pastry bag or a special utensil to inject the filling into the centre of each doughnut. The result is an irresistible dessert that can be enjoyed at any time of the day, whether for breakfast, as a snack or as a dessert after a meal.

Here is a basic recipe for making filled donuts:

Ingredients for the donuts:

  • 500 grams of wheat flour
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 10 grams of dry yeast
  • 200 ml of warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 grams of melted butter
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying

Ingredients for the stuffing:

  • Pastry cream, dulce de leche, hazelnut cream or jam (your choice)

Instructions:

In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and dry yeast.

Add the warm milk, eggs, melted butter and vanilla essence to the flour mixture. Mix well until you obtain a smooth, homogeneous dough.

Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

After the dough has risen, knead it lightly on a floured surface and roll it out with a rolling pin until it is about 1.5 cm thick.

Using a donut cutter, cut circles out of the dough and then using a smaller cutter, make a hole in the center of each circle to form the donuts.

Place the donuts on a floured tray and let them rest again for about 15-20 minutes.

Heat enough oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot but not smoking, fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown on both sides.

Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.

Once the donuts are cool, fill them with your favorite cream, jam or marmalade using a pastry bag or utensil to inject the filling into the center of each donut.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired and enjoy your delicious filled donuts!
