Ever since I brought you all my — >Homemade KFC chicken recipe, this Popeyes version has been requested numerous times, FINALLY – here it is!

For the Chicken Marinade:

  • 4 lbs chicken pieces (wings, thighs, drumsticks)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

For the Coating:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper for the coating.
  4. Preheat your frying oil to 350-375°F (175-190°C) in a deep fryer or large, heavy pot.
  5. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess liquid to drip off.
  6. Coat each piece of chicken thoroughly with the flour mixture, pressing the coating onto the chicken.
  7. Carefully place the coated chicken into the hot oil, a few pieces at a time, to avoid overcrowding the fryer. Fry until golden brown and crispy, and the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
  8. Remove the fried chicken and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining chicken pieces.
  10. Serve the homemade Popeye’s-style chicken hot, and enjoy!

Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste preferences, and remember that frying times may vary depending on the size of your chicken pieces. Always exercise caution when working with hot oil.
